Get back to the basics of crafting with these new Back to Basic Shapes from QuicKutz! With everything going on in the economy lately, there seems to be an enduring call to return to the simple things in life, or in other words, the bare essentials. We've discovered that even the most basic things provide the most versatility, functionality and happiness. In staying consistent with that spirit, Quickutz is releasing a collection of dies that are practical, efficient, usable and therefore essential to any serious crafter!
Complement these dynamic shapes with the perfect title! The Sticky Note Mini Alphabet comes on one 4x8 die and adds a fun look to all of your projects.
The Back to Basics release is certain to be one that anybody can appreciate. From office supplies to nesting shapes, from brackets to instant photo frames – there’s something for everyone! My question to all of you is which die(s) do you want the most and what will your first project be with it (them)?
Again, if you've won one of the last three give-aways, you won't be eligible for this contest. Can't wait to hear what you come up with!
Here's a couple Out of the Box project ideas using these dies:
Did anyone pick up on my "basically" reference from previous posts? That was me trying to be sneaky by giving a little clue, but maybe it didn't work.
Here are some teaser posters for the Spring Gift Sets coming National Scrapbooking Day (May 2nd). Look for these posters hanging up in your favorite scrapbooking store. I can't say much about them yet but let me tell ya, these Gift Sets are superb and will surely go quick!

I will say that there are four gift sets and their names are not "tickled pink, true blue, etc.", those are just teaser names. More info to come in a couple weeks!
Don't forget about the April release. Those dies are basically just as exceptional and they'll be in stores April 21st.
This month's release is fresh, funky and unlike anything QuicKutz has released before. Let these cheerful designs adorn your greeting cards, layouts and even 3D projects for added charm and visual appeal. Try cutting them out in bright colors and patterned paper for an even more vibrant, eye-catching design!
This release includes the new bubbly Rainbow Alphabet on a 4x8 die, two sets of much anticipated Nesting Stars and much more!
Laura’s Challenge of the Month:
The Fresh and Funky release got its name because, as you can see, it’s very unique from our usual style. Our designers saw these kinds of “funky”, almost cartoon-like trends emerging all over the place and were inspired to add it our line.
Although they appear to represent a very specific style, we’ve discovered that they (like most of our dies) are very versatile and can be used to create completely different shapes. My challenge for you is to look at these shapes and think of some other shapes the same dies could create. For example, the trees (below) could also be lollipops and the clouds could be bushes. Those are just a couple simple examples but I’m certain you guys can do even better than that. But hey, simple ones can be just as cool too. Good luck! (P.S. If you've won one of the last two give-aways, you won't be eligible for this contest. Sorry, we have to give everyone a chance!)
After thought: A couple weeks ago I asked you to guess the theme of this release based on one die that I admit was very deceiving. You all guessed well under the circumstances and I did warn you that this theme was a little more abstract than most. Thanks for all your guesses!
Congratulations to the winners of the February Release Giveaway!
Thanks to everyone who responded. I understand that with so many cute dies to choose from, it would be quite impossible to guess which 2x2 and 4x4 sold the best. But according to our sales record as of last Friday, these were the top dies ordered from retailers:
2x2 – Chick KS-0930
4x4 – Tree REV-0182-D
Here are the winners:
Chick guessers:Tree Guessers:
Each winner will receive either two shapes from the release of their choice or the Chick-a-Dee alphabet if they prefer. Since Kelley was also the first one to get both correct she’ll receive two shapes and the alphabet. So if you’re listed as a winner above, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I’m feeling extra generous today so I’m going to reward one more person. It’s apparent that the chick and egg (or eggs with legs as you call it) shape is a new favorite. When I first saw this shape I immediately thought of the cartoon character Sheldon from a popular Saturday morning show I watched growing up. Since that time our office has referred to this shape (both the 2x2 and 4x4) lovingly as Sheldon. The first person to reference the show Sheldon was on correctly will also receive a prize. Good Luck!
Just for the record, the rain puddle is my favortie die. Maybe it's because I have big yellow rain boots just like that or perhaps it's because playing in the rain and jumping in puddles is a favorite past time of mine. Anyway, it's cute.
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. My husband and I are preparing to witness history on Friday for a one night only concert with MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice. It’s certain to be a night to remember.
Spring is on its way and so are these brand new spring shapes from QuicKutz! They're a combination of classic spring designs inspired by some of our earliest hits, together with new designs unlike we've ever released before. These adorable shapes are ideal for spring-time projects as specific as Easter and St. Patrick's Day, yet versatile enough to embellish any layout or card you're creating!
We're also releasing a new 4x8 alphabet, Chick-a-Dee! This mini alpha adds just the right amount of spunk to all your Spring projects including layouts, thank you cards and any project that needs a little extra charm.
For fun, our office made some early-on predictions of which dies in this release would be the most popular of both the 2x2s and the 4x4s (Jake is demanding that I give full credit to him for this idea). I didn’t do so well in my predictions but maybe you will all know better than I did...
Chance to Win!
I’m offering some product giveaways to the first three people to guess the most popular 2x2 and the first three people to guess the most popular 4x4 of this release (so a total of six winners). And when I say popular, I mean best selling. Here are the rules:
1. Only one guess! In your post you can guess only once for both the 2x2 and 4x4 categories.
2. Although you’re welcome to make additional posts about your feelings concerning this release, I’ll ignore all subsequent guesses after your first.
FYI: Winners will get the chance to choose their favorites from the release as a prize and are not tied to receiving the dies they guessed.
Click here to view the entire release and start guessing!
Feel free to write about what you liked best from the release too if you'd like. I love hearing that stuff too!
P.S. The above shapes are merely a representation of the release and contain no hidden clues for the game.
First of all I just need to say wow. I am very impressed with the response to the Blue Goo post (I didn't even realize that that many people followed this blog!). Thanks to all of those who voted, I still need to tally the votes and then I'll post the results.
So anyway here we are, back after a long week at CHA and I can finally talk about our new products! As usual, CHA was a big release for us so here's a recap of some of our newest products along with shipping dates.
First things first. We now have a new version of the Silhouette (the Silhouette SD) that is portable. It's very similiar to the original, but with the option to take and cut while away from a computer. I mentioned in the newsletter that we are also releasing updated software that's included with the SD and will be available for download on our website for all existing Silhouette users. I neglected to mention that we won't be releasing the new software until mid February when the tool ships. I apologize for not mentioning that. After demoing the tool at CHA and playing around with the new software, especially the word and shape welding functions, I can tell you that both are REALLY cool and extremely easy to use.
Secondly, we released our new embossing folders at the show. I also got to demo these at CHA and I loved them. These plastic embossing folders are $4.99 each and come in three sizes: 2x2, A2 and 12-inch borders (2x2s come in a set of four). This is a great option for embossing lots of gorgeous designs for an affordable price. Expect these in stores in April.
One of the most exciting things we released at CHA was our new adhesive-backed sheets. I think I even heard someone say they were the best thing they saw at the show. Try them out and see for yourself, and look for our ad in Creating Keepsakes magazine. These should be in stores at the beginning of March.
I also want to mention our new 3D shapes. These were designed specifically to jump right off the page, giving your projects more dimension and variety than ever before. I love the way these look particularly on cards but they also work great for layouts, too. Just add some thick foam behind the part of the shape you want to pop to keep them looking three-dimensional.
What from this release were you most excited about? Which of the 3D shapes is your favorite and why? Leave me a comment and you may just get what you wish for!
Check back next week for photos and good stories from CHA as well as the winning projects from the Deck the Halls contest. Have a great weekend!

I personally love the lanterns die best. They're especially cute cut out in patterned paper. I think the candles are pretty cool too. What are your favorites?
